Young Frankenstein

Garrick Theatre is all set to host the rib tickling funny London show, Young Frankenstein! In the year 1974, the movie with the same name Frankenstein was created by Mel Brooks. The movie starred Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, and went on becoming one of the most popular comic movies of the 20th century. The movie earned huge awards and acclamation such as Oscars and Golden Globes. Mel Brooks’ comedic show made its premiere on the West End on 28th September 2017 and is a wonderful musical reworking of the great film, by the legendary comedian himself.

In the year 2007, the witty musical was recreated by Brooks to Broadway. The show enjoyed more than 400 outstanding performances. The show was a huge success and toured both around America and the world. The stunning comic musical has been refreshed by Brooks by rewriting it especially for a hilarious Westend run. The show ensures more excitement, fun and cockney than the earlier  versions.

The blockbuster show, Young Frankenstein is basically a parody of Mary Shelley’s classic horror story with the similar name. During the era of 30s, the iconic motion pictures derived from it. It deals with the saga of Fredrick Frankenstein, who is the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein. He inherits all the family estate along with his grandfather’s mantel and the sidekick Igor and a voluptuous lab assistant Inga.

Young Frankenstein is a complete package of chaos and some great moments of the original film. The show features some great unforgettable musical numbers penned by brooks like ‘The Transylvania Mania’, ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ and ‘He Vas My Boyfriend’. The titular role of Dr Frankenstein is portrayed by Hadley Fraser of Les Miserables, City of Angels fame. Other talented starcast includes comedian Ross Noble as Igor, Lesley Joseph as Frau Blucher, Diane Pilkington, Summer Strallen and Patrick Clancy. Other cast members are Imogen Brooke, Matt Crandon, Nathan Elwick, Kelly Ewins-Prouse, Andrew Gordon-Watkins, Sammy Kelly, Richard Pitt, Harriet Samuel-Gray, Gemma Scholes, Emily Squibb, Aron Wild and Josh Wilmott. Under the superb direction of Susan Stroman, who is a renowned and award-winning choreographer and director. Both Stroman and Mel Brooks had earlier collaborated on the applauded musical The Producers.
