The King and I
Get set for a brand new
sensational London musical, The King and I at the London Palladium theatre. The
hugely anticipated London musical will make its return to London Westend after
two decades. During its blockbuster run on Broadway, the show went on winning
prestigious Tony Award. In the year 2000, Bartlett Sher’s revival of the
classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I was last seen at the
London Palladium featuring Elaine Paige.
The story of The King and I is
set against the backdrop of 1860’s Bangkok. The superb musical is the story of
romance between a British schoolteacher, Anna, and the strict King of Siam. The
musical love saga of King and the teacher is simply brilliant. The story of The
King and I is all about love and principles.
In the year 1953, the show was
premiered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. This is one of the most loved
musical classics featuring brilliant songs such as “I Whistle a Happy Tune”,
“Getting to Know You”, “Something Wonderful” and “Shall We Dance?”.
The King and I stars, Kelli
O’Hara, six-time Tony nominee in the lead role of Anna. In the Broadway
production, she went on winning 2015 Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a
Musical. Some of the popular works include The Pajama Game, South Pacific and
The Bridges of Madison County. The role of King is portrayed by Ken Watanabe.
He also made his Broadway debut in the role. Some of the famous film
appearances are Inception, Batman Begins and The Last Samurai.
The spectacular production, The
King and I is directed by Bartlett Sher of Oslo fame. The set is designed by
Michael Yeargan, costume designed by Catherine Zuber, lighting designed by
Donald Holder and sound designed by Scott Legrer. The show is choreographed by
Christopher Gattelli inspired from the original choreography by Jerome Robbins.
The show The King and I will come
to London West End’s London Palladium for limited season. The show will run from
June 21st to August 4th 2018 and recommended for 5+ kids.
