Consent

After an immensely successful and sold out session at the National Dorman’s Theatre, Nina Raine’s blistering new show Consent is all set to make its debut at the West End for a limited season. Under the spectacular production of Sonia Friedman, the outstanding brand new show gives an edgy view over the discussion of consent by the justice system.

There are few questions that are being raised here regarding the justice especially of the UK legal system. Whether justice is blind, impartial or blinkered? The show holds a much debated topic. Consent depicts opposing briefs taken by two good friends in a contentious legal case. The case leads to severely loosen their lives both in court and at home.

In a sensitive rape trial, a lawyer defends opposite a friend where the prime witness is a woman. Consent is an edgy show that finely depicts all versions of the truth and they are challenged as a consent becomes a topic of contention.

Consent features some of the finest performances from wonderful actors such as Heather Craney known for The Vote, Passion Play and Adam James popularly known for Doctor Foster has made return to reprise their roles. Other new cast members are Claudie Blakley of The Painkiller, Chimerica fame and Stephen Campbell Moore of All My Sons, Chimerica fame. Other casting members are Clare Foster, Lee Ingleby and Thusitha Jayasundera.

Under the magnificent direction of Roger Michell, Consent is a complete treat to watch. Some of his previous credits are running across the National Theatre, RSC and Royal Court. Other highlights are set design by Hildegard Bechtler, costume design by Dinah Collin, lighting design by Rick Fisher, sound design by John Leonard and original compositions by Kate Whitley.

Nina Raine’s exciting new play Consent gives a close view of the justice system placing modern relationships and law under scanner. Some of her earlier works are Tiger Country and Rabbit and Tribes. In the year 2006, Raine won the Evening Standard Theatre Award and Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright for her celebrated debut play Rabbit. Consent will run for a limited season at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre from May 29th to August 11th 2018, with previews beginning May 18th 2018.
